How to remove an unwanted area
Open a source image
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB. Large images are reduced to a 2,400 px longest side for processing.
Cover the unwanted area
Use Brush/Lasso, or choose an Auto Detect suggestion, then review and adjust the mask.
Process and compare
Select Remove selected area, then use Before/After or Compare to inspect the edges and filled background.
Open the downloaded file
Choose PNG, JPG or WebP, download it and check its pixels, format and edited area.
Choose the area and removal mode
Start with a small area, cover the unwanted detail fully and review the mask before selecting Remove selected area. Auto Detect suggests areas for you to check.
| Situation | Choose in the tool | Check the result |
|---|---|---|
| Object or person in the background | Cover the object with Brush/Lasso, or pick an Auto Detect suggestion; use Automatic or Objects · LaMa AI. | Check the edges, shadows and nearby texture. The background is predicted, not recovered from hidden original pixels. |
| Text, logo or watermark on an image you may edit | Try Automatic with a mask covering the letters and their faint edges; use the small text/watermark mode for a narrow area. | Zoom in for leftover letters or smeared colour. On a complex background, undo and process smaller areas. |
| Large area or detailed background | Use Automatic or Objects · LaMa AI, keep the mask close to the target and work in passes if needed. | Inspect at the intended display size; large areas, faces and repeating patterns can show fill artifacts. |
Compare before downloading
Use Before, After or Compare to review the edited area, then zoom into the edges. If the mask missed a detail, return to Mask, brush or erase and process again; Undo can restore the previous result.
Downloaded size and format
Images with a side over 2,400 px are reduced to a 2,400 px longest side on opening; the download uses that working size. Choose PNG, JPG or WebP; Quality applies only to JPG/WebP. Check the downloaded pixels and format.
If the result needs work
- Text or object edges remain
- Return to Mask, cover the remaining edge and process again. On a detailed background, try smaller areas in separate passes.
- Background looks blurred or mismatched
- Undo, keep the mask near the unwanted detail and try Objects · LaMa AI. The tool can only predict the hidden background.
- AI does not load or the image is too large
- Check your connection to download the model, retry or use a JPG/PNG/WebP under 20 MB. Large images and many selections need more memory; work in smaller passes.
Where is the image processed?
Your image is read, masked, processed and exported in the browser; this workflow does not send the image content to an KitoTool removal API. The browser may download libraries and AI models from external sources, and the page has general analytics.
