Download YouTube thumbnails from a link or video ID
Preview a YouTube video thumbnail and save an available JPG at the size you need. The page shows only the sizes it can load; Max is not available for every video.
Paste a link to find its thumbnail
Enter a link or video ID to see available images.
Your browser fetches images directly from YouTube’s image server. Use only images you own or are allowed to use.
From a video link to a JPG
Paste video link
Copy a YouTube video link or enter its 11-character video ID. The tool accepts watch, Shorts, Live and youtu.be links, but not channel or playlist links.
Choose image size
Select Find thumbnails. The page checks four JPG variants and shows only images that load; each card reports the image’s actual pixel dimensions.
Save the JPG
Preview the image, then select Download JPG. If your browser cannot save the file, choose Open image and use the browser’s save-image action.
Which thumbnail size should you choose?
These are the usual sizes of the four variants this tool checks, not a promise that every video offers all four. Use the pixel count and preview on each result card.
| Variant | Usual size | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Max | 1280 × 720 · 16:9 | You need the largest of the four sizes checked here; it may be absent. |
| SD | 640 × 480 · 4:3 | You need a medium-size 4:3 image; preview it for possible borders. |
| HQ | 480 × 360 · 4:3 | You need a smaller 4:3 image for documents or comparison. |
| Medium | 320 × 180 · 16:9 | You need a compact 16:9 preview. |
When an image is missing or will not save
- Link rejected
- Use an HTTPS link to one video or its exact video ID; check the YouTube domain and avoid playlist or channel links.
- Image size missing
- That variant may not exist for the video. The tool hides failed images and small placeholders rather than enlarging a small image and calling it HD.
- No image found
- Check the video ID, video access and connection to YouTube’s image server. Removed or unavailable videos may return no usable image.
- Download did not save
- Choose Open image on the same card and use your browser’s save-image command. The tool downloads JPG; it does not convert it to PNG.
How images are retrieved and used
The tool reads the link or ID in your browser and builds image URLs from the video ID. Your browser requests images directly from img.youtube.com; Download JPG briefly holds the image in browser memory to create a file. The tool does not download video, access private images or send the link to an KitoTool image-download API.
Saving an image does not grant permission to reuse it. Before republishing someone else’s thumbnail, check your rights or ask the owner. See YouTube’s copyright guidance.
