Compress PDFs online and check the resulting size
PDF too large to send or upload? Choose a compression level or enter a KB/MB limit for each file. KitoTool shows the resulting size and which files met the target before you download.

Up to 10 PDFs, 80 MB each and 200 MB totalHow to compress PDFs on KitoTool
Choose files from your device
Click Choose PDF Files or drop up to 10 files. Each file can be up to 80 MB, with a 200 MB total per batch.
Choose a level or a KB/MB limit
Use Light, Recommended, Strong or By Target Size to set a limit per PDF, then click Compress PDF.
Review each result
Compare file sizes and target status. Open the downloaded PDF to check text, images and layout; download files individually or together as a ZIP.
Choose a mode for your PDF
| What do you need? | Choose in the tool | Check afterward |
|---|---|---|
| A PDF with selectable or searchable text | Start with Light; try a stronger level only if you can accept changes to the result. | Open the result, select/search text and check its size. An optimized PDF may shrink only a little. |
| A scan or image-heavy PDF that needs to be smaller | Try Recommended; if it is still large and you can accept less detail, try Strong. | Zoom in on small text, tables, stamps and QR codes; check every page before sharing. |
| Each PDF must stay below a KB/MB limit | Choose By Target Size and enter the destination limit for each file. | Check met/not-met status; a result may be smaller than the limit or miss an unrealistically low target. |
| Only part of the document is needed | Extract the pages you need, then compress the new PDF if it is still too large. | Check page order and count; this is a separate PDF splitting task, not a compression mode. |
Set a limit per PDF instead of guessing a level
If the destination has a KB or MB limit, choose By Target Size and enter the maximum for each file. The result need not match that number exactly: the tool reports success when it stays within the limit.
If the original already fits, the tool may keep it unchanged. A very low target may be unreachable; check each file’s status, raise the limit if allowed or remove unneeded pages and retry.
Check text and layout after compression
A text-based PDF may shrink little if it is already compact. Light prioritizes structural optimization; after downloading, try selecting or searching text to confirm the result remains usable.
For scans or image-heavy PDFs, stronger compression can soften small text and images. Some results are rebuilt as page images, so previously selectable text may no longer be searchable. Keep the original and inspect the result before sharing.
If the PDF is still too large or the result is not right
- Target not met
- Raise the limit if allowed, or remove pages you do not need and compress again. A very low limit may be impossible for the page count.
- Little or no reduction
- Text PDFs and optimized files may not shrink further. Check the result size; do not choose Strong solely to force a smaller file if searchable text matters.
- Text is blurry or not selectable
- Return to the original, try Light or increase the KB/MB limit. Open the result and check small text, tables, links and forms before using it.
- Locked file or slow tab
- Unlock the PDF with proper authorization before compressing and compare its size afterward. For large or long documents, try fewer files per batch on a device with sufficient memory.
PDF contents are processed in your browser
PDF contents are processed in your browser for compression, not uploaded to KitoTool servers for this step. A batch accepts up to 10 files, 80 MB each and 200 MB in total. If your device slows down, try smaller batches.
Frequently Asked Questions about PDF Compress
Quick answers to common questions about PDF Compress and how to use the tool effectively.
Does compressing a scanned PDF make its text searchable?
No. This tool reduces the size of scanned pages but does not recognize text. If the original contains only images, the result still has no selectable or searchable text layer.
Should I compress a signed or fillable PDF?
Keep the original. Some modes can rebuild pages as images, affecting interactive elements or digital signatures. Open the download to check; if these features must remain intact, prefer the original or try Light and verify again.
