How to Compare Two Files in 4 Steps

01

Choose or paste two files

Choose file A and file B from your device, or paste text or code into both editors.

Read changes from version A to version B

A is the original and B is the new version. Use Side-by-side to compare aligned rows, or Unified diff to read additions (+) and removals (−) in one column.

Result Meaning What to check
AddedContent appears in B; edited lines are included.Select the count and inspect B or a + line.
RemovedContent appears in A; edited lines are included.Select the count and inspect A or a − line.
Different linesEach added, removed or edited row counts once.Check highlights for changed words or spaces.

An edited line appears in both Added and Removed, so those two counts should not be added together to get Different lines.

If a file fails or the result looks wrong

Scanned, password-protected or mixed PDF input
Choose two unlocked PDFs with selectable text. The tool compares extracted text page by page, not images, fonts or layout.
Garbled text or a rejected file
Use UTF-8 text files; binary files cannot be compared. Check what appears in the A/B editors before comparing.
PDF pages moved or inserted
Pages with the same number are compared. Review following pages before assuming all their text changed.
Only line endings changed
CRLF and CR are normalized to LF for comparison, so that difference does not appear as a changed line.
